The Marriage
Problem is a detailed study on how our culture has weakened the
family bond and the ability to resist divorce. The two sides of
today’s American families are examined – one consisting of parents,
safe homes and good education and the other where children are
raised by only one parent in poor neighborhoods and high rates of
crime. This study reveals that these two sides come about due to
the effects of divorce on children and families. The sources of the
breakdown of the family are also discussed, beginning with the
period of Enlightenment to the practices of slavery. Solutions to
strengthening the family life are also provided. Some of the issues
discussed are, how the erosion of family life has damaged children's
futures, leading to school dropouts, teenage pregnancy, and a
greater likelihood of emotional problems, drug use, and criminal
activity. |
